About Henrique Hilário
Henrique Hilário Meireles Alves Sampaio, professionally called Hilário, is a Portuguese soccer player. He gained global recognition in 2006 after he was signed by English side Chelsea FC. He spent eight seasons with the team in which he won two FA Cups, a Football League Cup and an FA Community Shield.
Before joining the London-based team, he starred for other prominent teams like Académica de Coimbra, Nacional and Porto. The goalkeeper helped the latter to win two Primeira Divisão trophies.
International career
After a number of games at the various youth levels, Hilário was called to the senior team for the first time in 2010. He made his debut later that year.
Coaching career
Chelsea FC hired the former Portuguese soccer star as one of their goalkeepers’ trainers in 2016. Two years later, he was made the head goalkeeping coach by then coach Maurizio Sarri.
Facts
He made his professional debut in 1994 with Segunda Divisão B side, Naval 1º Maio.
He has played alongside some prominent names like Petr Čech and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese shot-stopper played 39 times for Chelsea FC.
