About Heather Mitts
Heather Mitts is a retired American soccer player who once played for the Philadelphia Charge and also participated in the first female women's league called the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). She was named a WUSA All-Star in 2003. With her national team, she won gold medals at three Olympic Games.
Early Years
She was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and studied at St. Ursula Academy. She played for her school’s team and led the team to win the state title.
Career Highlights
She received an athletic scholarship into the University of Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in advertising. During her days at the University, she played for the Florida Gator’s Women Soccer managed by Rebecca Lung Burleigh. She led the team to win their first championship in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition.
After graduating from the university, she signed for Tampa Bay Extreme and played for the team for three years. She played for other teams such as Central Florida Krush, the Philadelphia Independence and the Boston Breakers. It was at the latter she hung up her boots, in 2013.
Internationally, she played for the United States and made 137 appearances and scored two goals.
Awards
The former defender won three gold Olympic medals at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics games.
She also steered the U.S. Women’s National Football team to victory at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in 2006.
Personal Life
She married A.J. Feeley in 2010 and they have three children.
Trivia
Mitts often organizes soccer camps to serve as a platform to teach children the fundamentals of soccer.
