About Harry Reasoner
3 -time Emmy Award winner Harry Truman Reasoner was a CBS and ABC News journalist, recognized for his creative use of language as a television pundit. The journalist also made his name known as the founder of the "60 minutes" Programme, which made its debut in 1968.
Early Life
Reasoner lived out most of his youth in Iowa and was the son of Eunice and Harry Ray Reasoner. His parents home-schooled him for several years till he enrolled and graduated from West High School in 1940. He then pursued journalism at the University of Stanford and the University of Minnesota and later in the army during World War II.
Career
Reasoner returned to his passion after the world war and resumed his duties with The Minneapolis Times. His time at war was so traumatic that Reasoner wrote about its effect on women and titled it "Tell Me About Women," published in 1964.
The journalist became a part of CBS News Network, where he co-hosted a morning news program, "Calendar", from 1961 to 1963, in addition to commentator and special news narration duties. Reasoner was also one of the first journalists to break the news of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 during his time as a CBS anchor. He later left ABC in 1970 but returned to CBS in 1979.
Personal life and Death
Reasoner first married Kathleen Carroll Reasoner in 1946 until she died in 1986. He then went on to marry Lois Harriett Weber from 1988 to 1991. Reasoner died in 1991 due to a blood clot in his brain and was survived by 7 children.
