Harry Gordon Selfridge was a department store magnate known for being the founder of the famous a chain of high end department stores Selfridges based in the United Kingdom.
Career
After leaving school, he did a variety of odd jobs until he found work as a stock boy in the wholesale department of Marshall Field and Company, one of the biggest department stores in Chicago. He was later made a junior partner in the business - a position which significantly improved his finances. He founded the Selfridges departments store in London after he retired from Marshall Field’s in 1909.
Personal Life
He married Rosalie “Rose” Buckingham in 1980. He and Rose had five children together. The couple remained married until Rose's death in 1918.
