About Harry Crosby
Crosby founded the Black Sun Press, an English publishing company, in France in 1927. Some of his noteworthy works include “Red Skeletons”, ‘Transit of Venus” and Mad Queen”. He was also noted for his service in World War I.
Family
Crosby was the son of Stephen Van Rensslaer Crosby and Henrietta Marion Grew. He married Mary Phelps Jacob in 1992.
Education
He attended the Noble and Greenough School and Harvard University.
Career
During World War I, he volunteered in the American Field Service and later worked in the U.S. Ambulance Corps.
The Black Sun Press published the works of renowned authors such as Ernest Hemingway whom Crosby had met in the Ambulance Corps as well as James Joyce and D.H. Lawrence.
Legacy
Caresse published a series of literary works titled ‘Torchbearer” and “Aphrodite in Flight”.
“Collected Poems”, a set of Crosby’s works which included “Chariot of the Sun” and “Sleeping Together”, were published after his death.
Death
He died by committing suicide on December 10, 1929.
