About Harry Caray
Harry Caray worked with a number of radio stations before he was hired by Major League Baseball side St. Louis Cardinals in 1945 to call games for the franchise. He spent over two decades with the team which made him an iconic figure of the side.
During his career, he called games for some prominent teams like the St. Louis Browns, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox.
Personal Life
His original name is Harry Christopher Carabina. He lost his mother at the age of 14 years. He tied the knot with Dolores 'Dutchie' Goldmann in 1975. Before their union, he married and divorced Marian Binkin and Dorothy Kanz. He was the father of broadcaster Skip Caray. His nephew is Tim Dunigan.
Education
After graduating from Webster Groves High School, the American broadcaster went to the University of Alabama.
Laurels
He received the Ford C. Frick Award in 1989 and became a National Radio Hall of Famer the following year.
Trivia
He popularized the 1908 song titled "Take Me Out to the Ballgame".
He founded the Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse restaurant in 1987.
