About Hans-Dietrich Genscher
Hans-Dietrich Genscher was appointed Germany’s Vice Chancellor in 1972. He served in that position until 1992, though he vacated his position for 14 days during the 1980s. The German politician became a member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) in 1952. After some years, he was voted into the Bundestag as a representative from North Rhine-Westphalia.
In 1969, Genscher was named as the head of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. When his tenure came to an end in 1974, he was selected as the leader of FDP. In 1982, while serving as the Vice Chancellor, he was appointed as the Foreign Affairs Minister.
Family
His parents were Kurt Genscher and Hilda Kreime. He divorced Luise Schweitzer in 1966 and married Barbara Genscher three years later.
Education
He studied at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, as well as Leipzig University.
Honors
This famous politician received many accolades including the Prince of Asturias Award, the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

He also worked with some renowned organizations like CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg, the German Council on Foreign Relations, and Baltic Development Forum.
As a writer, Genscher published a number of literature works including “Die Rolle Europas im Kontext der Globalisierung” and “Wir wollen ein europäisches Deutschland”.
He was often referred to as the "master of diplomacy".
