About Hannah Van Buren
She was the wife of the president of the U.S. Martin Van Buren. She, however, passed away before van Buren took office as president so she never served as first lady.
Background
She was born and raised on a farm in Kinderhook, New York. Her parents were of Dutch descent.

Though distant cousins, Hannah and Martin fell in love with each other. Following the establishment of Martin's law practice in 1803, the pair got married and had 4 children. He chased his political dreams, serving as a constitutional officer for Columbia County and later as a state senator in Albany in 1812. Hannah preferred to be a home keeper and later became involved in the humanitarian work of the local Presbyterian Church.
Death
She was diagnosed with tuberculosis while living in Albany. She died a month short of her 36th birthday in 1819. 18 years later, Martin was sworn in as the 8th president of the U.S.
