His birth name is Henry Rider Haggard and he was born to Ella Doveton who was a poet and author and William Meybohm Rider Haggard, a barrister. He was a student of Ipswich Grammar School. Considering the fact that his father did not put much effort into his education because he did not really believe in his ability, he moved to South Africa to work. He worked hard there and during that time, he met Mary Elizabeth Jackson who he developed feelings for. He informed his father about her and made him aware he was going to marry her. At the time, he was a registrar of the high court. His father however vehemently refused with the excuse that he did not have a good career. When he was ready, she had already married. He later married Marianna Louisa Margitson who was his sisters’ friend. He passed away in 1925.
Career
He has worked on a lot of great books including “King Solomon’s Mines”, “She”, “Dawn” and “Beatrice” among others. All his books have been converted into movies.
