About Gypsy Rose Lee
Gypsy Rose Lee was the stage name of Rose Louis Hovick, an American actress, author, playwright, burlesque performer and vedette. She initially rose to fame for her striptease act in the early days of her career while performing as a burlesque entertainer. She also appeared in about a dozen movies between 1937 and 1966 including “Belle of the Yukon”, “Screaming Mimi” and “Babes in Baghdad”. As a writer, she is known for her memoir, “Gypsy: A Memoir”; novel, “The G-String Murders” and play, “The Naked Genius”.
Family Life
She and June Havoc, her sister, were raised by their mother, Rose Thompson Hovick following her divorce from their father, John Olaf Hovick. She was married three times and had one son, Erik Lee Preminger from an affair with director Otto Preminger.
Death
She died on 26 April, 1970 at 29 years old from lung cancer.
