About Guglielmo Marconi
Guglielmo Marconi was a Nobel Prize-winning Italian electrical engineer, inventor and businessman best known for his work in radio communication and for sending the first transatlantic radio transmission. As an entrepreneur, he founded The Wireless Telegraph & Signal Company (later known as the Marconi Company) in 1897.
Family Life
He was the son of Giuseppe Marconi and Annie Jameson. He had an older brother named Alfonso. He also had a stepbrother named Luigi. He married Beatrice O'Brien in 1905. The couple had three daughters and a son before divorcing in 1924. After the marriage was annulled in 1927, he married a woman named Maria Cristina Bezzi-Scali. The marriage produced a child.
Awards
He won the prestigious Nobel Prize in Physics along with German physicist Ferdinand Braun in 1909. He also won among other prestigious awards the Franklin Medal from the Franklin Institute in 1918.
