Grayson Perry is a leading personality in English contemporary art. He is a renowned English artist, broadcaster, and writer. He has won several awards and has earned much international recognition in his career.
Early Life & Education
He was born in Chelmsford, Essex, England. He has described his childhood as discouraging and tough because of his parent’s divorce at the time and an alleged violent stepfather.
He enrolled at Braintree College in 1978 and read a fundamental art course for a year. The artist holds a BA degree in fine art from the Portsmouth College of Art and Design.
Works & Exhibitions
He is known for designing ceramic vases and tapestries with unique classical forms and bright color decorations. In addition, the artist is a master of cross-dressing and always keeps a constant autobiography in his artwork; thus, his image as “Claire,” his feminine alter-ego, and the image of his teddy bear from childhood “Alan Measles.”
There are several TV documentaries and published books that describe his works. He has also released his autobiographies, including “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl” and “The Descent of Man (2016).” In addition, he has held numerous solo exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and America.
Major Honors
He is a recipient of the Turner Prize and became a “Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)” in 2013.
