About Gottlieb Daimler
German engineer Gottlieb Daimler has been credited for inventing the petroleum-fueled, high-speed engine. He also played key roles in the development of the automobile industry, and has been praised for introducing the internal-combustion engine. In 1885, alongside Wilhelm Maybach, he produced the first-ever internal combustion motorbike which would be known as the Petroleum Reitwagen.
Five years later, the two opened an automobile manufacturing company known as Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. In 1892, their first car was bought. Daimler resigned from the company the following year due to him falling out with some stakeholders.
Family
He was born to Frederika and Johannes Däumler. With his first wife Emma Kunz, he had two kids named Paul and Adolf Daimler. He later married Lina Hartmann.
Education
He was trained at the Stuttgart's School for Advanced Training in the Industrial Arts, and continued at the Polytechnic Institute in Stuttgart.
Recognitions
In 1978, he was elected into the prestigious Automotive Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He worked on the world’s first motorboat.
Between 1993 and 2006, a stadium in his native Germany was named after him. This stadium would later be named as The Mercedes-Benz Arena.
