About Glynis Johns
Actress, singer and dancer Glynis Johns began acting on stage as a child in the mid-1930s. She initially used to dance ballet on stage before appearing in plays. It did not take long until she was cast in her first film, “South Riding” in 1938. Her most popular performances were in the Broadway musical, “A Little Night Music”, as Desiree Armfeldt and the musical fantasy film, “Mary Poppins” as Winifred Banks. She retired in 1999 and was last seen in the film, “Superstar”.
Family Life
Her father was Welsh actor, David Mervyn Johns and her mother, Alice Maude Steele, was a pianist. She was married four times; her last one to novelist and screenwriter Elliot Arnold ended with his death in 1980. She was a mother of one.
Achievements
She was a one-time Academy Award nominee and was the recipient of a Tony Award in 1974.
