About Glenn Gould
Canadian pianist Glenn Gould found fame for his articulate and unique interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach’s keyboard works. He ended up becoming one of the 20th century’s most accomplished pianists as a result.
Besides Bach, he also recorded compositions by the likes of Brahms, Mozart, William Byrd and Haydn. He also composed music and worked as a conductor, writer and broadcaster.
Family Life
His mother, Florence Emma Gold, taught him to play the piano in his early years. His father’s name was Russell Herbert Gold.
He was never married and very little was known about his private life. However, in 2007, art instructor Cornelia Foss revealed that she had an affair with him from 1967 to 1972, when she was still married.
Achievements
He is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. He won four Grammy Awards and three Juno Awards.
Death
He was taken off life support on 4 October 1982 after a stroke left him paralysed.
