About Gladys Knight
Gladys Knight is a singer, songwriter, actress, author, and businesswoman. Nicknamed the “Empress of Soul”, she began singing in church at four years old.
From the 1950s to the 1980s, she performed as a member of the R&B/soul/funk music group called ‘Gladys Knight & the Pips’, which was made up of her siblings and cousins and churned hit singles such as “Love Overboard”, “Save the Overtime (For Me)” and “Neither One of Us”.
Her solo album, “Miss Gladys Knight” came out in 1978.
Family Life
She was the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth and Merald Woodlow Knight Sr. She grew up with three siblings, including Brenda and Bubba, who also performed in the Pips with her. Knight has given birth to three children and has been married four times.
Achievements
Between 1967 and 2005, she won seven Grammy Awards.
Acting Career
She starred in the films titled “Pipe Dreams”, “Twenty Bucks” and “Hollywood Homicide”.
