George S. Patton was an American Army general.
His Highlights/Legacy
He is best known for commanding the Seventh United States Army in the Mediterranean and European Theaters in World War II. He was also responsible for the design of M1913 "Patton Saber".
He is regarded as one of the most important commanders and army generals of all time. Through the years, he became a folk hero.
Notable Achievements
He became an expert in tank warfare during WWI and started a tank school.
He was given command of the 3rd U.S. Army on D – Day and under his leadership that army swept across France
His Personal Life
Patton was married. In 1945, he had an accident that had him paralyzed from the neck down. He died in his sleep of pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure at the age of 60 the same year.
In 1912, he participated in the Olympic Modern Pentathlon.
Legacy
His book War as I Knew It was published posthumously after he died from injuries in a car crash in Germany.
