About George Martin
Having launched his career as a composer, record producer and musician in the early 1950s, George Martin initially worked with comedians, producing novelty and comedy records.
He earned the nickname “Fifth Beatle” due to his contributions to the albums of the famous English band, Beatles. Other artists he worked with include Kenny Rogers, Cilla Black, Elton John and Neil Sedaka.
He also worked on scores for films such as “A Hard Day’s Night”, “The Family Way” and “Yellow Submarine”.
Family Life
He was the son of Betha Beatrice and Henry Martin. He had been married to Judy Lockhart Smith for almost fifty years as of his death. He had four children.
Achievements
For his work on various artists’ albums, he was honored with multiple Grammy and BRIT Awards. He is an inductee of the UK Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Death
He died on 8 March 2016 in his sleep. He was 90 years old.
