About George L. Mosse
George L. Mosse went from escaping N--ism in Germany to becoming a celebrated historian and professor of history. After his family was forced to flee N--i Germany, he lived in Switzerland and studied in England before settling in the United States in 1939. He graduated from the Quaker Haverford College and Harvard University. He taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Iowa and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. One of his notable works is “The Crisis of German Ideology: Intellectual Origins of the Third Reich”.
Family Life
He was the grandson of German publisher and philanthropist Rudolf Mosse through the latter’s daughter, Felicia. His father, Hans Lachmann became a manager of the Mosse media empire after marrying Felicia.
Mosse was homosexual.
Awards
He received the Goethe Medal and the Leo Baeck Medal.
