About George Floyd
George Floyd was an American citizen who, before his death, worked as security officer at a restaurant. Unfortunately his claim to fame is dying at the hands of police officers in what appears to be a blatant, video-recorded act of police brutality.
Family Life
He left behind a sister named Bridgett Floyd and a brother by the name of Philonise Floyd.
Death
The video recording of Floyd’s arrest shows a Minneapolis police officer by the name Derek Chauvin with his knee on Floyd’s neck while the latter is pinned to the ground. Reportedly, he was held in this position for a duration of at least eight minutes, even after he had become unresponsive. And before passing out, he actually complained about his inability to breathe.

Floyd was a standout athlete in high school in both football and basketball.
The reason the police were called on him was allegedly due to him trying to spend a fake $20 bill.
He was out of work at the time of his passing as a result of the restaurant he was employed at being closed due to stay-at-home orders in relation to the 2019/2020 pandemic.
In the aftermath of Floyd’s death, the four police officers involved in the incident had their jobs terminated by the Minneapolis Police Department.
It also led to the outbreak of violent protests in Minneapolis, including an actual police station being under sieged by protesters.
Also, the Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, has called for Derek Chauvin to be criminally charged.
US President, Donald Trump took to his Twitter platform to express his condolences to the Floyd family and to condemn the act.
The incident was reproofed by several other notable personalities including American politician Joe Biden.
He was known as a “gentle giant”, i.e. someone who was big, standing at 6 feet, 6 inches tall, though peaceful.
He was personal friends with former NBA player Stephen Jackson, who noted that Floyd recently moved from Houston to Minneapolis in search of “his best self”.
