About George Eliot
George Eliot, as she was professionally known, became famous as the writer of the novel titled “Silas Marner” which was published in 1861. She’s also credited for writing other popular novels such as “The Mill on the Floss” and “Romola”. The English poet and journalist was one of the prominent authors during the reigns of Queen Victoria.
Family
Her real name was Mary Ann Evans and she was born to Robert and Christiana Evans. She was raised together with six siblings. In 1854, she became married to an English philosopher called George Henry Lewes and the couple stayed together until his death in 1878. Two years later, she got married to John Walter Cross.
Trivia
She was diagnosed with throat infections and kidney problem which contributed to her death.
