About George Bernard Shaw
George Bernard Shaw was a renowned Irish playwright, political activist and critic who was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925. Throughout his lifetime, he wrote over sixty plays, including such famous ones as 1902's Man and Superman, 1912's Pygmalion and 1923's Saint Joan. He is regarded as one of the greatest dramatists of all time.
Family Life
He was born to Lucinda Elizabeth and George Carr Shaw. He had two older sisters named Lucinda and Elinor. In 1898, he and Irish political activist Charlotte Payne-Townshend got married. The couple did not have any children and stayed married until Charlotte's death in 1943.
Trivia
He was against all forms of organized training.
He abhorred his name "George" and never used it.
He was involved in an accident in 1898, which caused his left foot to swell to the "size of a church bell".
