About Georg Trakl
The literary writer was known for his works in expressionism and other works such as “Grodek” and “The Golden Goblet: Selected Poems of Georg Trakl”. The latter is a collection of poems between 1887 -1914.
Family
He was the son of Tobias Trakl and Maria Catharina Halik.
Education
He studied pharmacy at the University of Vienna in Austria.
Career
Trakl started his career as a pharmacist and worked for about three years. During this period, he tried out playwriting and came up with his two short plays “All Souls’ Day” and “Fata Morgana”.
In 1920 he published the books “Der Herbst des Einsamen” (The Autumn of The Lonely One) and “Gesang des Abgeschiedenen “(Song of the Departed), 1933.
He also wrote literary works such as “Twenty Poems of Georg Trakl”, which was translated to English by James Wright & Robert Bly in 1961, and “Song of the West: Selected Poems” translated by Robert Firmage in 1988.
Death
The Austrian playwright and poet died from an overdose of cocaine on November 3, 1914, aged 27.
