Personal Life
His parents were Jewish and had two other children apart from him. His father had to change the family’s surname after the First World War ended. It was required that anyone whose surname was not Hungarian was to change it to one that sounded Hungarian. His older sister studied music so he went with her to learn. He got into Ernő Fodor School of Music and continued his studies at Franz Liszt Academy.
Career
To become who he wanted to be with regards to music, he had to get himself educated. He did this by offering piano lessons because his parents could not afford to get him where he wanted to be. Unfortunately for him, the part of the family that could help did not think his dreams were valid enough for the investment. In 1930, he started working in the Hungarian State Opera. He later became musical director of Bavarian State Opera and did wonderful work in the world of Orchestra
Trivia
His inspiration to go into Orchestra and conduction was Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and he is believed to have released over 250 recordings.
Death
It is known that he died in his sleep in 1997.
