About Gary Sheffield
Gary Sheffield is a retired baseball player who played chiefly as an outfielder in the US Major League Baseball between 1988 and 2009.
Career
Gary played in the Hillsborough High School team in the 1980s where he became the Gatorade National Player of the Year 1984. In the minor league he was drafted for Helena of the Pioneer League and then to Stockton of the Class-A California League in 1987.
At the Milwaukee Brewers in 1988, Gary made his major league debut and moved to San Diego Padres after four seasons. The Padres traded him to the Florida Marlins’ Rich Rodriguez in June 1993.
He has also played for Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, the NY Yankees, Detroit Tigers and finally for the NY Mets from April 2009, where he retired in 2011 without making any appearance in 2010.
Awards and Achievements
Sheffield is a 9-time Major League Baseball All-Star and winner of the 1996 Florida Marlins Most Valuable Player Award.
Trivia
His uncle, Dwight Gooden, was also a Major League player whom he played against in May 1992 when he was with the San Diego Padres.
