About Gary Lightbody
Gareth John Lightbody, popularly referred to as Gary Lightbody is a Northern Irish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He rose to fame through his membership of the Scottish-Northern Irish alternative rock band, Snow Patrol, which he co-founded in 1994. He also plays the rhythm guitar and performs vocals in the band. He became a founder of the supergroups Tired Pony and the Reindeer Section.
Personal Life
He grew up in County Down, Northern Ireland. He and his sister, Sarah were born to Jack and Lynne Lightbody. He attended the University of Dundee in Scotland, where he studied English literature.
Achievements
Lightbody was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire. The University of Ulster gave him an honorary doctorate in 2018.
Trivia
He has served as a member of the board of directors for the Northern Irish Oh Yeah Music Centre, a music charity for young artists.
