About Gary Gygax
Gary Gygax rose to fame as a co-creator of the fantasy tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. Prior to designing and publishing the game in 1974, he had co-established the Tactical Studies Rules game publishing company. He was also the first host of Gen Con, a gaming convention that has grown to become North America’s largest tabletop game convention. Other games he worked on are “Lejendary Adventure” and “Dangerous Journeys”.
Family Life
His father, Ernst Gygax was a Swiss immigrant who later performed as a violinist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His mother’s name was Almina Emelie Burdick. He had six children from his two marriages.
Achievements
He is a member of the Pop Culture Hall of Fame and the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design Origins Award Hall of Fame.
Death
He died from an abdominal aortic aneurysm on March 4, 2008.
