About Garry Marshall
Garry Marshall, born Garry Kent Marshall, was an actor, film writer and producer of American nationality. He started as a joke writer. He wrote for a few comedians including Phil Foster and Joey Bishop.
In the 1960s, he wrote for American television sitcoms such as “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and “I Love Lucy”.
He became famous for directing “Happy Days” from 1974 to 1984, “Laverne and Shirley” from 1976 to 1983 and “Mork & Mindy” from 1978 to 1982. Also, he was well-known for directing romantic and family films including “Runaway Bride” in 1999, “The Princess Diaries” in 2001, “New Year's Eve” in 2011 and “Mother's Day” in 2016.
Education
He studied at DeWitt Clinton High School and the University of Northwestern.
Family
He was the son of Anthony W. Marshall and Marjorie Marshall. He had two siblings called Ronny Hallin and Penny Marshall. He married Barbara Marshall in 1963. He had three children named Lori Marshall, Kathleen Marshall and Scott Marshall.
Awards
In 1990, he won the American Comedy Awards for “Creative Achievement”.
Marshall won the American Cinema Editors Award for “Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year” in 2004.
He won the PRISM Awards for “Best Feature Film” in 2008.
