Gabriel Contino, known professionally as Gabriel o Pensador, is a Brazilian rapper, composer and writer – he is best recognized for his lyrics, which mainly capture topics related to activism, politics, race, the Catholic Church, and social problems.
Family Life
His father was a renowned journalist while his mother, Belisa Ribeiro worked as former president Collor’s press secretary. He was married to Ana Lima between 1999 and 2009. He has had children named Davi Lima Contino and Tom Lima Contino from his previous marriage.
Achievements
His self-titled album, which was released in 1993 debuted at number one on the Brazilian charts and number one among the Top 30 Pro-Musica Brasil charts. It was certified platinum thrice by the ABPD.
His 1997 album titled Quebra-Cabeca sold more than 1.5 million copies following its release.
Gabriel has authored numerous books including Diario Noturno, Meu Pequeno Rubro-Negro and Um garoto chamado Rorbeto.
Trivia
He served as a juror on the second edition of the Soletrando spelling bee contest.
He established the NGO named Pensando Junto (Thinking Together) and has been a member of the Dreams Can Be Foundation.
