About Frederick Sanger
Frederick Sanger was a celebrated English biochemist whose most popular work was on protein structure. He began making a name for himself in 1951 when he researched the sequence of amino acids.
He was also recognized for his association with the Medical Research Council and his contribution to the study of DNA.
Family
He was the son of Cicely Sanger Crewdson and Frederick Sanger. He grew alongside two siblings named May and Theodore. His children with Margaret Joan Howe were Sally Joan, Peter and Robin.
Education
The famous biochemist studied at St John's College in Cambridge. He also attended the University of Cambridge.
Honors
He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry on two occasions, becoming the second person to achieve that. Sanger was also honored with awards like the Royal Medal, Copley Medal and the Gairdner Foundation International Award.
Trivia
He shared the 1908 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Walter Gilbert.
