Fred Astaire was an American dancer, choreographer, and actor widely regarded as one of the most influential persons in the musical film genre, bringing innovations to how dance pieces would be performed on films. He is perhaps best known for his appearances opposite Ginger Rogers in ten musical films which include Flying Down to Rio (1933), Roberta (1935), Swing Time (1936), Shall We Dance (1937), and Carefree (1938).
Off the Dance Floor
Astaire was also an accomplished actor in non-musical productions like the action-adventure television series It Takes a Thief (1968) and the action drama disaster film The Towering Inferno (1974) which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
