About Franklin Pierce
Franklin Pierce was an American politician. He was a Democrat.
His Highlights/Legacy
He served as the 14th President of the United States from 1853 to 1857. He had also served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate earlier. He was a former lawyer and he was eventually appointed U.S. Attorney for his state in 1845.
He supported the Kansas–Nebraska Act and he enforced the Fugitive Slave Act. His reputation declined in the North during the Civil War, as he became a vocal critic of President Abraham Lincoln.
His Personal Life
He was married to Jane Appleton and they had 3 children. He was a heavy drinker and he died of severe cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 64.
