About Frank Mahovlich
Canadian former pro hockey player Frank Mahovlich had a successful career, appearing in over 1,400 games in a span of 22 seasons. Following his retirement, the six-time Stanley Cup winner later served in the Canadian Senate.
Hockey Career
Mahovlich started playing hockey as a teenager for the Schumacher Lions. A few years later, he was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs for the remainder of his junior career before joining the senior side in 1957. During his first professional season, he won the Calder Trophy for top rookie. He later played for the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Toros, and the Birmingham Bulls.
He also represented his home country Canada at the international level.
Awards & Honors
Mahovlich appeared in 15 NHL All-Star games between 1959 and 1974. He was a six-time Stanley Cup champion and was inducted into both the Hockey Hall of Fame and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and 1990, respectively.
