About Frank Broyles
American former footballer John Franklin Broyles made his name known through his coaching exploits by winning the AFCA Coach of the Year in 1964. Broyles was also the College Football Hall of Fame inductee.
Growing Up
The coach was born to Louise Solms Broyles and Ozzie Broyles. He graduated from Georgia Tech and nurtured his football career by being a quarterback from 1943 to 1947. He also delved into baseball at Georgia Tech and played for a year from 1946 to 1947.
Coaching Career
Broyles started out as an assistant coach for the Baylor Bears football team from 1947 to 1949. He became an assistant coach for the Florida Gators football team in 1950. He went on to coach Georgia Tech as an assistant from 1951 to 1956. After his spell at Georgia Tech, he moved on to serve as the head coach of the Missouri Tigers football team. A year later, he was appointed head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. His longest coaching spell was at Arkansas, where he coached from 1958 to 1976.
Personal Life
The coach married Barbara Day Broyles from 1945 to 2004 but later remarried Guendaline Whitehead Broyles from 2005 to 2017.
Achievements
With Arkansas, Broyles won a national championship in 1964.
