The American actress was known for her television appearances during the 1930s and 1940s. She played Ann Rogers in "King of the Jungle" and Jane Mallorey in "Headline Shooter".
Family
She was the daughter of Francis Marion Dee and Henriette Putnam. She married fellow actor Joel McCrea in 1933. They had three children together. The couple remained as husband and wife until McCrea’s death in 1990.
“Playboy of Paris” & Other Career Highlights
In 1930, she played the lead character in "Playboy of Paris". She appeared alongside Maurice Chevalier in the musical comedy film, which was directed by Ludwig Berger. The film received very positive feedback and earned her a co-starring role in Paramount Pictures' acclaimed drama film “An American Tragedy” directed by Josef von Sternberg. She starred as Sondra Finchley and was in a cast that included Phillips Holmes and Sylvia Sidney.
She also secured roles in several other films, most famous among them: "Little Women", "Payment on Demand", "Rich Man's Folly", and "Sky Bride".
Trivia
She appeared with her husband Joel McCrea in "Four Faces West" in 1948. The Western film, which was directed by American filmmaker Alfred E. Green, was based on Eugene Manlove Rhodes’ novel “Pasó por aquí”.
Death
Frances Dee’s death was reported in 2004. She died at the age of 94 after she suffered complications from a stroke.
