He is the only 4-time World Heavyweight Champion, winning titles in 1990, 1993, 1996 and 2000. He won the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the Silver medal at the Pan American Games in Caracas in 1983.
His 1996 fight with Mike Tyson was named fight of the year. He has been named the "Greatest Cruiserweight of all time" by The Boxing Scene.
