About Eusébio
Counted amongst the all-time greatest players in the history of soccer, the late Eusébio da Silva Ferreira was active in the sport professionally for 22 years. His career began in his birth country, Mozambique, where he first played for Sporting Lourenco Marques from 1957 to 1960.
He is remembered best for his 15 years (1961-1975) spent with the Portuguese club, Benfica during which he set numerous records, some of which still stand today. His last years as a professional player were spent with clubs in the North American Soccer League and some local Portuguese clubs.
Family Life
His mother, Elisa Anissabeni was a black Mozambican while his father Laurindo Antonio da Silva was a white Angolan man. In 1965, he married a woman named Flora Claudina Burheim. They had two children.
Achievements
He was the winner of 11 Primeira Liga championships, seven Primeira Liga top scorer awards, two European Golden Boots and one European Cup title amongst others.
Death
He died from heart failure on January 5, 2014.
