About Eugenio Montale
The Italian born poet, Eugenio Montale was known for his notable poet and they included La fiera letteraria (1948), “La bufera e altro” (1956) and “Accordi e pastelli “(1962).
Personal life
He was the youngest child of his parents and was born and raised in Genoa, Kingdom of Italy.
He was in a relationship with Irma Brandeis.
Career Highlight
Before venturing into his poet career, Montale worked as an accountant and served in the military during the First World War. After he had ventured into poetry, he wrote for mediums such as Corriere della Sera and the II Baretti literary magazine.
His first published poem was in 1925 titled “Ossi di sepia” (Cuttlefish Bones). His other remarkable poems include “La casa dei doganieri e altre poesie”, “Le occasioni” and “Finisterre”. To add up, most of his works were based on imagination.
Montale was affiliated to political parties such as Action Party, Independent and the Italian Liberal Party.
He worked as a reporter and through his reporting, he travelled to Israel to give a report on the visit of Pope Paul VI who went to Israel.
Achievements and Honor
In 1975, the Italian poet was awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Russian-American poet Joseph Brodsky committed his work “In the Shadow of Dante” in honor of Montale’s lyric poetry.
