She married Artis Mills in 1969. She and Artis remained married until her death. She had two sons named Donto and Sametto.
Achievements
Throughout her career, she won a total of six Grammy Awards and 17 Blues Music Awards. In 1993, she became an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was also inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001.
