He is regarded as one of the greatest commanders of World War II.
His Personal Life
He was married to Lucia Maria Mollin and he had 3 children. His first one, Gertrude, was from his relationship with Walburga Stemmer. After the end of the First World War, they all lived together.
He was linked to a famous conspiracy to assassinate Hitler. He was considered a national hero, so Hitler decided to kill him quietly. He forced him to commit suicide with a cyanide pill and in return Hitler assured him that his family would be safe.
