Erik Erikson was a German-born psychologist that is remembered for his theory on psychosocial development.
Legacy
Erik is best known for creating the phrase “identity crisis” as well as his theory on psychosocial development. Erik was a professor at Harvard and Yale but lacked even a bachelors degree. He was primarily self-educated but did hold 2 diplomas. Sigmund Freud’s daughter was the one credited with seeing Erik’s potential and pushing him to go into the field of psychoanalytics.

Erik was married to a fellow psychologist, Joan Erikson, and they had one son, Kai Erikson. Kai is a well-known sociologist.
