About Erich Fromm
Erich Fromm was a renowned American psychologist. He was tutored by the likes of Heinrich Rickert, Karl Jaspers, and Alfred Weber (younger brother of sociologist and jurist Max Weber). Some of his influences are Johann Bachofen, Baruch Spinoza, and Sigmund Freud,György Lukács.
His works have also influenced several notable figures like Martin Luther King Jr., Chögyam Trungpa, and Elias Porter. He’s widely remembered for his roles in the formation of the New York City-based William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology.
Family Life
His parents are Naphtali Fromm and Rosa Krause. He married fellow psychiatrist, Frieda Fromm-Reichmann in 1926, but both parted ways in 1942. Fromm married Henny Gurland in 1944, until her untimely death in 1952. He was married to Annis Freeman between 1953 and 1980.
Trivia
Fromm was an atheist.
He attended the University of Frankfurt am Main and later studied Sociology at the University of Heidelberg - where he received a PhD in 1922.
He gave up the ghost in 1980, at the age of seventy-nine.
