About Eric Holder
Eric Himpton Holder Jr made history in 2009 when he became the United States’ first African American to be appointed Attorney General. Prior to occupying the office, he had served in Bill Clinton’s administration twice; first as the US Attorney for the District of Columbia and then as the 29th US Deputy Attorney General.
He was also a Superior Court of the District of Columbia judge from 1988 to 1993.
Family Life
His parents, Miriam and Eric Himpton Holder, were of Barbadian descent. He has three children with his wife, Sharon Malone.
Achievements
He holds honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from Boston University and Columbia University. In 2008, his name made the lists of “50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America” and “Greatest Washington Lawyers of the Past 30 Years”.
Trivia
He resigned from office in September 2014 due to personal reasons. Almost a year later, he returned to private practice with law firm, Covington & Burling.
