About Enver Hoxha
Enver Hoxha’s political career was deep-rooted in the history of the Party of Labour of Albania. Right from the party’s inception in 1941 (then known as the Communist Party of Albania), he was appointed to the seven-member Central Committee.
He would then serve as the party’s First Secretary until his death. In 1944, he became Albania’s 22nd Prime Minister, serving until 1954. He was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1946 to 1953.
He is remembered for improving Albania’s economy, improving the adult literacy rate, outlawing religion and his mass electrification projects during his time in office.
Family Life
His father, Halil Hoxha was a cloth merchant. His mother’s name was Gjylihan. He grew up alongside three sisters. He had a son, Sokol and a daughter, Pranvera.
Achievements
He was honored with the Order of the People’s Hero by Yugoslavia and the Order of Suvorov, 1st Class by the Soviet Union.
Death
He died on April 11, 1985 following a protracted battle with a heart attack and diabetes.
