Italian supercentenarian, Emma Martina Luigia Morano, is famously remembered to have lived up to 117 years before she passed in April 2017. Before her death, she made the headlines as the very last 1800s born personality to have had his/her age verified.
Family
She was the eldest child of Matilde Bresciani and Giovanni Morano. She had three brothers and four sisters. She tied the knot with Giovanni Martinuzzi in 1926. In 1937 she had a child called Angelo Martinuzzi who passed six months after he was born. In the following year she and Giovanni separated.
Achievements
Former Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano, bestowed on her the “Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic” in December of 2011. When she turned 116, Vatican City sovereign, Pope Francis, congratulated her.
Trivia
After she passed, Jamaican supercentenarian, Violet Brown, took over her title as the “World's Oldest Living Person”. In 2016, she disclosed that her secret to long life was being single and a raw eggs diet.
