About Elvin Bishop
California-born musician Elvin Richard Bishop is known for his timeless American Blues and Rock Music. The 2015 inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame set the bar high after being inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2016. Bishop can boast of popular songs like the "Mississippi Queen" and "Never in my Life" in 1970.
Early Life and Education
Bishop grew up on a farm outside California and moved to Tulsa at a young age. While there, he attended Will Rogers High School and won a full scholarship that helped him enroll in the University of Chicago as a Scholar of Merit, where he majored in physics. However, he loved music a little more.
Career
Bishop joined Butterfield's blues band in 1963 and remained their only guitarist for 5 years. He composed "In My Own Dream" with the band in 1968, which later became quite popular. He left the band and went solo in 1968, writing great tunes like "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" in 1976, which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Bishop went on to chalk up a lot of success musically and released his first solo CD called "Gettin' My Groove Back" in 2005. He was recognized in 2017 for his album "Elvin Bishop's Big Fun Trio," which earned a Grammy Nomination.
Personal Life
Bishop married Jennifer Villarin but got divorced in 1980. Together, they had a daughter, Selina Bishop.
