Elizabeth Cady Stanton was an American women’s rights activist and suffragist who from 1890 to 1892 served as the president of the women's suffrage movement known as the National American Woman Suffrage Association.
She is regarded as one of the most prominent figures of America's women's suffrage and rights movement.
Family Life
Elizabeth was born to prominent American lawyer and politician Daniel Cady and his wife Margaret Livingston. She had 10 other brothers and sisters.
In 1840, Elizabeth married noted American lawyer, journalist and abolitionist Henry Brewster Stanton. The marriage lasted until Stanton's death in 1887. It also produced 7 children, including Harriot Stanton and Theodore Stanton.
Trivia
Elizabeth didn't live to see voting rights granted to women in the United States, for it happened 18 years after her death.
