About El Lissitzky
El Lissitzky was a prominent artist and painter who was very popular during Russia’s avant-garde period which existed between 1890 and 1930. Throughout his career, he was of the opinion that an artist could help bring change in the society.
After publishing his first design in 1917, the Russian artist went on to produce many works with some labelled “Proun Vrashchenia” and “Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge”. He was one of the founders of the group called Molposnovis alongside Kazimir Malevich. Some of his works have been showcased at centers like Paris’ M.T. Abraham Foundation and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
Personal Life
His original name was Lazar Markovich Lissitzky and he had a child with Sophie Kuppers.
Education
He studied at Technische Hochschule in Darmstadt and continued at Polytechnic Institute of Riga.
Trivia
Lissitzky described Malevich as his mentor.
In 1923, he designed a number of horizontal skyscrapers which he included in his proposal for Moscow’s Boulevard Ring.
