About Edwin Moses
Edwin Corley Moses is a former American gold medalist in the 400m hurdles. His illustrious career saw him take part in international games such as the Olympic Games, World Championship, and Goodwill Games. The former sportsman also became the Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy in 2000.
Education
He studied physics and industrial engineering at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Family
He got married to Myrella Bordt in 1982. The marriage hit the rocks and the couple parted ways in 1992. Moses married for a second time to Michelle Moses in 2007. That marriage ended after nine years.
Career Highlights
Moses earned gold medals at the 1976 and 1984 Olympic Games held in Montreal and Los Angeles respectively. He received a bronze medal at the 1988 game in Seoul. He also won gold medals at both the 1983 and 1987 World Championships. At the IAFF World Cup, he earned the gold medals in 1977, 1979, and 1981 games. He received a gold medal at the 1986 Goodwill Games held in Moscow.
Awards
Moses won the 1980 “Track & Field News Athlete of the Year”. The following year, he received the USA Track & Field’s Jesse Owens Award for “Outstanding U.S. Track and Field performer” 1981.
Achievements
He became the first Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy in 2000.
The hurdler was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1994.
At the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, he secured his first Olympic gold medal in the 400 m hurdles. Eight years later, at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he bagged his second gold medal. Then in 1988, at Seoul in South Korea, Moses won a bronze medal in the 400 m hurdles.
He also chalked up two gold medals at the World Championships, with the first one coming in 1983 in Helsinki, Finland.
Moses is a three-time IAAF World Cup gold medalist. The first gold medal came in 1977 at Dusseldorf, Germany.
