About Edwin Booth
Considered by many as one of the best actors to ever originate from the United States, Edwin Booth gained fame for appearing in many Shakespeare plays in his native country and across Europe. He made his acting debut in 1849 after he was cast in “Richard III”, directed by Colley Cibber.
With lots of success and fame, he established the Booth's Theatre in 1869. He was celebrated for his naturalistic style of acting.
Family
He appeared in many plays alongside his dad Junius Brutus Booth. His brother, John Wilkes Booth was infamously known as the murderer of President Abraham Lincoln. His other siblings were Junius Brutus Booth Jr. and Asia Booth Clarke.
He married his second wife Mary McVicker in 1869, but the union ended when she died in 1881. He was previously married to Mary Devlin.
Death
He died after battling with a number of strokes.
Trivia
Booth rescued the son of President Lincoln, Robert, in a train station incident.
